The Ross Valley School District faces a third year of dwindling education funding from the State of California and more cuts to its budget. The estimated amount, based on the Governor’s proposed budget, is over $750,000 for the 2009/2010.
Up to now, RVSD in collaboration with teachers, staff, parents and community members has been able to keep the cuts away from the children who attend Brookside, Manor, Wade Thomas and White Hill. Finding another $750,000+ on top of the cuts made in the last two years will likely involve personnel and programs that directly impact the childrens’ education.
Further complicating the situation is the facilities crunch created by the continued rise in enrollment. The elementary sites are over capacity and the middle school will not have enough classrooms to accommodate the 6th, 7th and 8th grades by 2012.
The Board of Trustees, District Office staff, Budget Advisory Committee and Facilities Planning Advisory Committee are working in close collaboration to address both challenges in a way that reflects the best thinking and priorities of the district community.
